With the increase in caregivers making natural dog food at home, you need to be aware of dog poison with food. The recent dog food recall has sparked an interest in learning how to make the best dog food for your dog. Do you know the Dangerous Foods your Dog should Never Eat? Most everyone knows chocolate and dogs is dangerous. While the news about chocolate and humans is getting better all the time "dark chocolate is good for you", all chocolate lovers rejoice! The same is not true for your dog...the darker the chocolate the more dangerous it is for dogs. Be selfish (in this case) keep all the chocolate for yourself. When it comes to fruit...it is a terrific snack even for dogs. Just no sharing grapes and raisins. A very small amount can be toxic and lead to death. Even the grape vine is dangerous. Keep your dog away from the plant and fruit of the grape. On to the vegetables, most are terrific, but must be chopped very small for your dog's digestive system to absorb the nutrients from the food. The most dangerous vegetable is onion. It can kill by causing a blood problem in dogs. Careful with the garlic it is beneficial in small doses, too much can cause gastrointestinal problems. Most other vegetables are recommended, although some vegetables irritate conditions with inflammation. These vegetables should be avoided if your dog has a medical condition with inflammation as a symptom. Meat is the last food discussed here. If you plan to feed raw dog food you need more information about safety for you and your dog, which exceeds the scope of this article. Most fresh, lean, cooked meat, poultry, and fish is safe with the exception of pork. Avoid pork and pork products for a number of reasons. Healthy dog food can be prepared safely with a little training. Be certain you are aware of the foods that can result in dog poison. If you are going to take the time to prepare meals for your dog, first take the time to properly learn how. |
